Patriots Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Jimmy Garoppolo(Jimmy Garoppolo Jersey) and Jacoby Brissett both were present for the start of Tuesday’s practice as the New England Patriots remain hopeful that at least one of the injured quarterbacks will be available for Sunday’s home game against the Buffalo Bills.

Garoppolo missed Thursday’s 27-0 victory against the Houston Texans with a sprained AC joint in his right throwing shoulder, while Brissett, who made his first career NFL start in his place, injured his right thumb in the third quarter and played through it.

Brissett, who had tape around his thumb and wrist Tuesday, seemed amused at the attention reporters were giving him before practice in the locker room, walking by them with a smile and saying, “Never seen so many people looking at my hand.” Brissett wasn’t made available to reporters.

Meanwhile, Garoppolo also walked through the locker room during the time in which reporters were present, quickly dropping his bag at his locker, grabbing his practice gear and departing without answering any questions. He did not wear a sling to aid his injured shoulder.

The Patriots, who worked out five-year veteran free-agent quarterback T.J. Yates last week, don’t have any other players at the quarterback position on their 53-man roster or 10-man practice squad.

The club is practicing Tuesday for the first time since the win against the Texans, with receiver Danny Amendola noting that it felt the club had a “mini bye week.” The practice was held in light shoulder pads and shorts, and reporters were present for only the stretching/light warm-up part of the session.

The Patriots, and other teams playing Sunday, won’t be required to submit an injury report that details the level of practice participation of players until Wednesday.

New England is looking to improve to 4-0 on Sunday and then will welcome back starting quarterback Tom Brady from a four-game suspension on Oct. 3.

Patriots Jacoby Brissett Jersey

Patriots rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett(Jacoby Brissett Jersey) suffered an injury to his right thumb in Thursday night’s victory over the Houston Texans, multiple sources have confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Two Patriots sources told Schefter that, knowing Brissett finished the game, they do not believe the injury to be serious.

One high-ranking team source, when asked whether Brissett will need surgery on his passing hand, told Schefter that the Patriots will “see where we are on Monday with everything.”

Boston radio station WEEI reported earlier Friday that Brissett has a torn ligament in his thumb.

Brissett started in place of Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a shoulder injury in New England’s Week 2 victory over the Miami Dolphins. It was Brissett’s NFL debut; he was a third-round pick in this year’s draft out of NC State.

Garoppolo was inactive Thursday night and his status for Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills is uncertain, but sources told ESPN that he is making progress. Tom Brady will be eligible to return from his four-game Deflategate suspension after New England’s home game next weekend against Buffalo.

Brissett was shown on the sidelines having the thumb examined by the training staff after 325-pound Texans defensive lineman Vince Wilfork landed on him in the third quarter of New England’s 27-0 win. Brissett finished the game, completing 11 of 19 passes for 103 yards, and he also ran in a 27-yard touchdown.

After the game, Brissett did not seem to be favoring his hand at all, shaking hands with his right when other players came up to congratulate him for winning his first NFL start. He spoke at his locker afterward without any bandage or ice on the hand.

With just four days between games, the Patriots did not have a backup for Brissett on the depth chart on Thursday night. Receiver Julian Edelman, who played quarterback at Kent State, was expected to be available if anything happened to the third-round pick.

The Patriots, who improved to 3-0 without Brady, now have 10 days before the Buffalo game Oct. 2 to bring in a free agent if one is needed.

Colin Kaepernick 49ers Jersey

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick(Colin Kaepernick Jersey) says he has had his life threatened as a response to his protest of racial oppression and inequality in the United States by kneeling during the national anthem.

Kaepernick said Tuesday that he has received threats via “a couple of different avenues,” in addition to social media. He seemed mostly nonplussed by the threats, saying that he hasn’t reported any of them to the 49ers security team.

“To me, if something like that were to happen, you’ve proved my point and it will be loud and clear for everyone why it happened and that would move this movement forward at a greater speed than what it is even now,” Kaepernick said. “Granted, I don’t want that to happen but that’s the realization of what could happen and I knew there were other things that came along with this when I first stood up and spoke about it. That’s not something I haven’t thought about.”

Kaepernick spoke to a handful of reporters on Tuesday in a 15-minute chat that started out as an informal conversation about vegan weightlifting supplements and turned serious when Kaepernick began speaking about police shooting and killing Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Monday.

“I think it will be very, very telling what happens with the officer that killed him, what happens with [her] because everybody’s eyes will be on [her],” Kaepernick said. “For me, I think one of the things that I’ve noticed throughout this is there’s a lot of racism in this country disguised as patriotism. People want to take everything back to the flag but that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about racial discrimination, inequalities and injustices that are happening across the nation.”

Kaepernick began his protest in the preseason by choosing to sit for the national anthem in the first three games before he and safety Eric Reid knelt before the team’s preseason finale in San Diego after a long chat with Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, who is also a former NFL player.

In the time since, Kaepernick’s protest has gained traction in other corners of the country with athletes kneeling and some raising a fist during the playing of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Kaepernick has also pledged to donate the first $1 million he makes this season to charities that will help communities in need. He added a little more about the progress on that front Tuesday, saying he intends to donate $100,000 per week over the next 10 weeks to the organizations he chooses to work with.

Kaepernick said his team is building a website that shows where the money is going, how it’s being spent and, he hopes, offers people the chance to donate.

“We’ll be able to track it so everyone can see exactly what organizations the money is going to and also making sure that we get an itemized list from the organizations of what they’re spending the money on to make sure not only that I’m transparent with what I’m doing but these organizations are transparent with where the money is going as well,” Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick said it has been challenging to vet the many organizations that have reached out for help and he is working to ensure that the money is going to the right place.

“That’s part of the reason we are being very careful and very meticulous with what we’re doing to make sure that the organizations that we are working with are grassroots and the money is going to the communities that we want it to go to and helping the people that we want it to help,” Kaepernick said. “Because there’s a lot of foundations and organizations where a fraction of the money that you donate goes to what the actual cause is and a lot of it is spent on company expenses or whatever you want to call it. That’s part of what we want to make sure we are not allowing to happen when making donations.”

While Kaepernick said he knew the backlash that might come with his protest, he is keeping his focus on the many athletes and people around the country offering support. He pointed to athletes at all levels of sports and in other sports as joining the cause and singled out New England Patriots defensive end Chris Long for expressing his thoughts recently.

“I think other people are picking up on the protest and speaking out about it, from high school to activists to pro athletes,” Kaepernick said. “I think it’s huge and I think the more conversation continues between those communities, more and more solutions will come up on how to fix this and the best way to fix it as quickly as possible. I think that’s important and ultimately the goal.”

Elite Tom Brady Jersey

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Though he wasn’t in a New England Patriots uniform, Tom Brady(Tom Brady Jersey) found a way to throw some touchdown passes this weekend.

Brady and Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Pro Bowl quarterback, had a catch together Saturday afternoon as the fourth-ranked Wolverines warmed up around them. Brady is visiting his alma mater this weekend as Michigan’s honorary captain for their afternoon match-up with Colorado.

Brady arrived in Ann Arbor on Friday night to speak to the team, but before he met them at the hotel he and his son made a stop at Michigan Stadium to throw a few passes.

He returned to the stadium around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon and headed into the Michigan locker room shortly after the team arrived. Harbaugh and Brady, both former starters for the Wolverines, lined up about 25 yards from each other and had a spirited game of catch. Harbaugh, true to form, wore cleats and a pair of receiver gloves.

Sheldon Rankins Saints Jersey

METAIRIE, La. — First-round draft pick Sheldon Rankins(Sheldon Rankins Jersey) will miss at least seven games after the New Orleans Saints placed the defensive tackle on injured reserve with his broken fibula Monday.

Rankins was expected to miss six-to-eight weeks when he suffered the injury during practice three weeks ago. This will add at least a few weeks to that timetable.

Teams are allowed to activate one player off of their injured reserve list per season — but that player cannot return to practice for at least six weeks and cannot play in a game for at least eight weeks.

As part of a new NFL rule this year, teams don’t have to designate which player will return from the IR list until he is ready to be activated.

Rankins’ injury dealt a big blow to a New Orleans defense that ranked among the worst in NFL history in some categories last year. The 12th overall pick out of Louisville, he had 14 sacks and 26.5 tackles for loss over the past two years.

Fortunately, New Orleans has a ready-made replacement in veteran Nick Fairley, another pass-rushing DT whom they signed in free agency this year.

The Saints also waived DT Ashaad Mabry on Monday and re-signed RB Travaris Cadet and DE Darryl Tapp.
